Third Grade Earth Science Standard :
- S3E1. Students will
investigate the physical attributes of rocks and soils.
- After researching
online, visiting the library, reading in the textbook, the students will create
a mini-presentation in which they will work in four different groups to
gather the following basic information within the standard:
- Group 1: Explain the difference between a rock and a mineral.
- Group 2: Recognize the
physical attributes of rocks and minerals using observation (shape, color,
texture), measurement, and simple tests (hardness).
- Group 3: Use
observation to compare the similarities and differences of texture, particle
size, and color in top soils (such as clay, loam or potting soil, and sand).
- Group 4: Determine how
water and wind can change rocks and soil over time using observation and
research.
- The groups will have
the choice between using Photopeach or Prezi where the
students will create a presentation using pictures, text, video, etc. to help explain
their group’s topic.
- The teacher will be able to use Photopeach to then create quizzes based off of the group's presentation in order to test the students' comprehension of the material.
- With Prezi, the teacher will be able to collaborate with students in real-time by helping to correct, give helpful tips, etc. This is made possible because Prezi allows for people to work together even when not using the same computer.
